How Many Subscriptions Does Your Home Replace?

Share this article:

It starts with Netflix. Then comes Spotify. Next thing you know, you're paying for Disney+, HBOGo, a coffee bean subscription, a healthy meal plan, a gym membership, reformer pilates class credits, and a pet daycare package. Because obviously someone needs to watch over your dog when you're out making money to pay for all these subscriptions.

Just for fun, let's do the math!

Netflix

$13.98/month

Spotify

$10.98/month
Disney+$12.98/month
HBOGo$14.48/month
Coffee bean subscription$20/month
Healthy meal plan$400/month
Gym membership$90/month
Reformer pilates class credits$130/4 classes
Doggy daycare (medium-sized dog)

$1,200/month

+

$1,892.42/month

Almost $2,000 on subscription plans, walao eh! But what if your condo can replace some of these memberships? That's right, condo living isn't just about having a gym and pool anymore. Developers are creating facilities that rival paid memberships. So, which upcoming project kills which subscription? Let's find out.

Sports & Fitness

For those of you who are in your fitness era, starting your workout arc, or just trying out a few sports, you don't have to sign up for all the memberships and classes anymore. Aside from the basics (a gym and maybe a 50m lap pool), some condos can offer you these facilities:

Tennis Court

Available at: LakeGarden Residences, The Orie, Nava Grove, Pinetree Hill, Grand Dunman, Sora, Lentor Mansion, Norwood Grand, The Myst, Parktown

A club membership that has a private tennis facility in Singapore can cost you at least $200/month, not including court bookings. That'll be an extra $7 - $11 per hour, depending on when you want to play. Assuming you play 2 hours twice a week, that's $28 - $44 per month. So if you're an avid tennis player, it might be worth looking into these projects.

Badminton Court

Available at: Hillshore, Norwood Grand

If tennis isn't your thing, maybe badminton is. Typically, public courts charge around $3.50 to $10.30 per hour, depending on whether or not it's peak hours, and private clubs may be more expensive. If you play two hours twice a week, that's at least $14 - $41.2 per month. Those who play badminton regularly might want to look into these projects.

Multipurpose Court

Available at: Nava Grove, Parktown

If you can't pick a favourite sport, perhaps a condo with a multipurpose court is more suitable for you. This setup gives you the flexibility to practice your 100 hobbies, be it basketball, pickleball, or something else. Booking a multipurpose court can cost you anywhere between $6 - $20/hour outside. Using our control of two hours twice a week, that translates to $24 - $80. So it'd be nice to have a facility like this at your condo.

Yoga Lawn / Deck / Studio

Available at: LakeGarden Residences, Nava Grove, River Green, Grand Dunman, Union Square, Parktown

I know the girlies will appreciate this one, especially since weekly yoga classes in studios can set you back $25 - $40 per session. So you should check out these projects if you don't want to keep spending $50 - $80 per month to stretch and find inner peace. You're welcome and namaste!

Rock Climbing / Bouldering Wall

Available at: Aurea, Hillhaven

A single indoor rock climbing / bouldering session typically costs $16 - $35. Going twice a week means spending $32 - $70 per month on this, but not if you live in any of these projects. So feel free to train your grip strength, or just climb for fun.

Wellness & Chill

Need a break from work or all the brainrot content on TikTok? Maybe these condo facilities can help:

Aqua Therapy / Hydro Massage Pool

Available at: Pinetree Hill, Grand Dunman

An aqua therapy pool is a heated pool (typically kept at 32-36C) designed for recovery and relaxation. They are often equipped with hydro jets and spa zones. And unlike regular pools, it helps relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and aid post-workout recovery, benefits that usually cost $120 per session elsewhere. This facility is something that can benefit everyone, but especially athletes, the elderly, the disabled, and those with chronic pain.

Glamping Pavilion

Available at: LakeGarden Residences, Nava Grove

Source: The LakeGarden Residences

Typically, glamping can cost you $200 - $300 per night, depending on the number of tents and pax. But these projects have glamping pavilions that you can use free of charge! So, you can extend your "stay" as you'd like, no need to worry about additional expenses.

Fun Time

Games Room

Available at: The Collective at One Sophia, Grand Dunman, Sora, Parktown

Eqquiped with foosball tables, pingpong tables, pool tables, even golf simulators, games rooms are great to hangout in. You can invite the homies, maybe get into a friendly competition. Outside, billiard and snooker cost around $12 per hour, and golf simulators (available at Grand Dunman) can go for $70 - $120 depending on the holes and pax. So, if this is your type of hangout, these projects are perfect for you.

Karaoke / KTV / Music Room

Available at: Pinetree Hill, Grand Dunman, Sora, Parktown

Who doesn't love karaoke? You can sing your heart out after a breakup, have fun with friends, or even let your parents have their old-school ballad moment. Karaoke is one of those rare things that everyone enjoys. It's fun, therapeutic, and honestly, a great way to blow off some steam after a long week. A typical karaoke night outside can easily cost $12 - $28 per hour, depending on room size and pax. But in these condos, you've got a cosy soundproofed room with no hourly rates, just good vibes.

Do These Facilities Drive Resale Value?

Condo facilities can influence resale value, but they're not the main driver. Resale value relies more on location, age, property condition, and overall market conditions at the time of selling. That being said, it doesn't hurt at all to have unique amenities, especially if you know you're going to use them a lot.

So How Much Money Would These Condo Save You?

It depends on the project and your monthly maintenance fee (which varies depending on your unit size). But technically, you'd be paying a maintenance fee anyway. So if it replaces some of your memberships, it's already a win.

Let's use LakeGarden Residences as an example.

Gym membership$90/month
Club membership$200/month
Tennis court booking (median)$36/month
Yoga Lawn (median)$65/month
Glamping (2 nights median)

$500/month

+

$891/month

Maintenance fee

$400 (for 1-bedroom units) to

$640 (for 5-bedroom + study units)

-

Costs saved

$251 - $491/month

You can cut down your subscriptions (+ commute costs if we're being real) and save $251 - $491 per month. If you don't think that's a lot, just think about how much that adds up over time. So before you sign up for another membership, maybe look into some of these new launches.
